Facelift

Sagging facial features and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead are signs of normal skin aging. A surgical facelift can reduce these signs, effectively tighten the skin on the face, and achieve significant visual rejuvenation.

What is the procedure for a facelift?

A facelift is performed as an inpatient procedure, and a hospital stay of one day is recommended. The facelift is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2-5 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery. After a detailed medical consultation, in which the possibilities and risks of the facelift are discussed and the patient’s wishes and ideas are considered, the operation can take place. The procedure of the facelift strongly depends on the desired rejuvenation and the individual circumstances of the patient. As a rule, the incision for a facelift runs along the temples, behind the ears to the hairline at the nape of the neck. The incisions made during a facelift are placed in the hairline or hidden behind the ears to make subsequent scars as inconspicuous as possible. The facial skin can now be detached from the underlying tissue via the incisions. Muscles, connective tissue, and fat are carefully tightened, then the overlying skin is pulled upwards and to the sides. The resulting excess skin in the area of the incisions is removed and the wounds are sutured together with self-dissolving sutures. Care is taken not to put too much tension on the skin, but to create a natural, comfortable tightening. Thus, the entire face, upper or lower facial area, chin, and neck can be tightened.

What is the aftercare like after a facelift?

After the facelift, a turban-like bandage is applied. The day after the surgery, the first follow-up appointment takes place, during which any wound drains that may have been placed are removed. The patient can usually leave the clinic the same day but should take it easy at home for another 1-2 weeks. Proper scar care and protection of the facial muscles are now particularly important. Initial swelling and bruises will disappear with time. Approximately one month after the facelift, the final result are visible.

Neck Lift

If the skin on the neck hangs limp and so-called neck bands have formed, the neck muscles and skin have lost tension due to age. To visually rejuvenate the neck, a surgical neck lift - a neck lift - can be performed. It reduces excess skin, smoothes wrinkles and tightens the neck muscles.

What is the procedure for a neck lift?

A neck lift is performed on an inpatient basis under local anesthesia with twilight sleep. The surgery takes about 1-3 hours. Often, a neck lift is performed in combination with a facelift to rejuvenate both the face and neck. However, it often makes sense to perform a neck lift as a stand-alone surgery. If, in addition to the neck lift, fatty tissue is to be removed to smooth the neck, liposuction can also be performed in combination with the neck lift itself. For a comprehensive tightening and smoothing of the neck, a similar incision is used as in a facelift. Incisions are made behind the ears down to the hairline at the nape of the neck. In addition, a short incision is often made below the chin. The incisions are used to tighten the connective tissue as well as the platysma muscle, which is responsible for the formation of the bands hanging down from the chin to the collarbone due to its slackening. The skin is then pulled towards the ears, excess skin is removed and the edges of the wound are sutured.

What should be considered after a neck lift?

After the neck lift, the patient usually remains in the clinic for one night. On the following day of the neck lift, the first medical follow-up appointment takes place. The patient can then leave the clinic. At home, the neck area should be rested for another 1-2 weeks. Any initial swelling and bruising will quickly disappear on its own. After about a week, the patient is fit for social activities again. In order to avoid excessive scarring, the patient should take it easy and pay attention to conscientious scar care. The final result of the neck lift is visible about 3 weeks after the treatment.
