Rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic operations in Germany. At the same time, it is also one of the most demanding treatments in aesthetic surgery. As part of a nose correction, a nose that is too large can be reduced, a crooked nose straightened, a hump nose can be corrected, the tip of the nose can be reshaped and the nasal septum can be straightened.
How does a rhinoplasty work?
A nose operation is usually performed inpatient and takes about 1.5-3 hours. It is operated under general anesthesia. Depending on the patient's wishes, the extent and procedure of rhinoplasty differ. Bone substance as well as cartilage and other soft tissue components can be removed and reshaped as part of the nose operation. It is also possible to correct only the tip of the nose or to reduce or align the nostrils. A nose correction requires a detailed surgical preparation in advance of the actual treatment. Together with the patient, the surgeon develops a suitable procedure to obtain the desired result. The operation itself is performed endoscopically or via individual incisions inside the nose on the mucous membranes. So no scars can be seen later. With the help of special surgical instruments, the nasal skeleton is exposed. Now the correction of the bony and cartilaginous parts of the nasal hump can be made. The set cuts are sewn and a protective plaster is applied.
What does the aftercare after a rhinoplasty look like?
The aftercare after a nose correction is decisive for the success of the operation and should also be carried out conscientiously over a period of several months. Since different types of tissue have to heal, the healing phase after rhinoplasty is comparatively long. After the nose operation, it is advisable to stay in the clinic for a few more days. In the period after rhinoplasty, the nose is severely swollen, bruising can form. In the first two weeks after rhinoplasty, the nose should be kept as calm and spared as possible. When sleeping, the head should be slightly elevated. The plaster is removed about 10 days after the operation. Only about half a year after the nose operation can a preliminary result be assessed.
